Dictionary of shotcrete terms

Shotcrete mixture is a mixture of concrete that is applied to the surface.

Shotcrete is a layer of concrete created by spraying it onto the surface with a shotcrete machine.

Shotcrete unit (shotcrete machine) is specified equipment used for wet- or dry- shotcrete applycation.

Wet-mix shotcrete process is a method of shotcreting in which ready-mixed concrete is applied to the surface.

Dry-mix shotcrete process is a method of shotcreting in which the dry mixture is mixed with water in a shotcrete machine and then applied to the surface.

Adhesion is clinging between the coating and the surface. The strength of adhesion determines the durability of the coating.

Cohesion is clinging between the coating and the surface. The strength of cohesion determines the strength of the coating.

Plasticizers are substances that are used to increase the elasticity and plasticity of the material.

Rebound is a part of the mixture that bounced off the surface and doesn’t cling to the surface during the application.

Accelerant is a substance used to accelerate the hardening of the mixture.

Spray nozzle is a device for dosing the mixture.
